Originally a division of Briggs & Stratton Corporation, STRATTEC SECURITY CORPORATION is the world's largest producer of automotive locks and keys. STRATTEC, headquartered in Milwaukee, Wisc., has 3 locations in North America that manufacture products for clients in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Europe and South America. Additionally, through its participation in the VAST Alliance, it benefits from eight additional facilities around the world with which it can support global customers.

Founded in 1908 as a partnership between Stephen F. Briggs and Harold M. Stratton, Briggs & Stratton was initially formed to manufacture automobiles. While this initial effort was not successful, the company found its niche selling components to other automotive manufacturers, especially locks, ignition switches and other electrical specialty parts. In 1995, the company spun off the lock and key division as STRATTEC. Since the spin-off, STRATTEC has maintained its status as a dominant player in the North American market for automotive security products, and preserved relationships with key industry customers such as General Motors, Ford Motor Company, Daimler Chrysler and Delphi.

STRATTEC's products can be found throughout a vehicle, but specialize in a few important access control components:

  • Tailgate, decklid, and liftgate latches
  • Ignition, door, trunk or tailgate and glove box lock cylinders
  • Conventional mechanical keys, high-security transponder keys, and keys integrating remote-entry electronics
  • Zinc and magnesium ignition lock housings
  • Specialty accessory locks

STRATTEC takes pride in providing the highest value mechanical, electro-mechanical and electronic security/access control products for the motor vehicle industry, while ensuring complete customer satisfaction with product, technology and quality.
