Originally a division of Briggs & Stratton Corporation, STRATTEC SECURITY CORPORATION is the world's largest producer of automotive locks and keys. STRATTEC, headquartered in Milwaukee, Wisc., has 3 locations in North America that manufacture products for clients in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Europe and South America. Founded in 1908 as a partnership between Stephen F. Briggs and Harold M. Stratton, Briggs & Stratton was initially formed to manufacture automobiles. While this initial effort was not successful, the company found its niche selling components to other automotive manufacturers, especially locks, ignition switches and other electrical specialty parts. In 1995, the company spun off the lock and key division as STRATTEC.
